Cheeses - Larger Sized

Devon Blue 1.5 kg

Devon Blue 1.5 kg
Ticklemore Cheeses, South Devon
Price: £27.00

A lovely half moon shaped blue cheese made from pasteurised cows milk. The Devon Blue possesses the distinct characteristics of a cheese made by Robin Congdon, at the Ticklemore Dairy, and has a smooth, moist, slightly crumbly texture. It is made using Ayrshire cows milk and matured for at least four months to give a sweet and smooth, medium/strong flavoured blue cheese.

Our verdict: Fresh, quite strong for us but probably not for a blue. A nice smooth and creamy texture though can be crumbled too over salads.

Please be aware weight is approximate as the cheese is handmade. Sometimes it will be a little bit over sometimes a little bit under.

Devon Blue is best enjoyed on the cheeseboard, accompanied with a spicy wine such as Cotes du Rhone, or alternatively on its own with a glass of cider.

Dairy

Robin Congdon built his own dairy which overlooks the River Dart near Totnes in Devon. As a farmer, he was one of the first to start milking sheep in the 1970's. Now he is totally dedicated to making cheese, particularly blue cheese not only using ewes' milk but also cow and goat milk. As if he's not busy enough he runs a cheese shop in Totnes.

Quantity:
